Alexis Sanchez is apparently considering his options for the future, with Arsene Wenger’s inactivity in the transfer market giving him something to think about, as reported by The Sun.
The report suggests we’re in the midst of contract talks with the Chilean, and are looking to tie him down long-term after his fantastic start to life in London. Not only is he demanding an improved £160,000 per week deal though (via The Sun), he also wants some assurances that the club shares his ambition and will show it in the transfer window.
We’ve spent next to nothing in the last couple of transfer windows, despite supposedly pushing for the Premier League title. This season is arguably our best chance in years to clinch the trophy, but Wenger’s unwillingness to spend could potentially see us miss out.
Every single Premier League club has spent more than us over the last 12 months, and with the comparative financial minnows we’ve got in the Premier League that is a travesty. It’s understandable that this would frustrate Alexis, as he came to Arsenal thinking he was coming to a big club with big ambitions, and yet over the last 12 months we’ve signed just two players and spent less than half the money we spent just to bring him to the club from Barcelona.
Arsenal transfer news
Whether the reports are true or not, it’s hard to see Alexis leaving any time soon. He appears to be happy at the Emirates and is perfectly suited to the Premier League, as we saw in his debut campaign with the club. Wenger won’t want to lose him, and hopefully he and the board agree to match the player’s demands and become a little more active in the transfer market.
