At this point we’ve all known for a long time that Kelechi Nwakali was joining Arsenal, but it’s now been confirmed by the youngster’s agent, as reported by the Express.
The 17-year-old is highly rated in Nigeria and was key to his side’s success at the U17 World Cup.
Arsenal fans were hoping to see more established names join the club this past January, but Mohamed Elneny was the only senior player to be added to the squad. Arsene Wenger clearly still puts a lot of his focus on youth though, with Nwakali the latest acquisition.
His agent has dropped a few hints about the transfer fee, and revealed that the length of his client’s new deal is five years.
“Kelechi has signed a five-year deal with Arsenal,” the agent said.
“I won’t be able to mention the exact transfer fee but it is above £2million.”

The teenager is obviously one for the future rather a player who will have an immediate impact, but he certainly looks like a quality addition. He was the player of the tournament at the U17 World Cup in Chile, and will hopefully be a real boost to our youth teams.
We were once the top dogs when it came to youth football, with Arsene Wenger frequently utilising the youngsters in Capital One Cup and FA Cup competitions. Our U21s just aren’t cutting it at the moment though, and we aren’t even in the top league right now.
Arsenal transfer news
Hopefully our new signing can help change that, and contribute at youth level before making the step up to the first team eventually.
