Arsenal Football Club announced massive cash reserves recently, and although Arsene Wenger won’t be given a blank chequebook this summer, he will be handed £75m to make additions, according to The Telegraph.
The main focus is apparently a centre-back and a central midfielder, although other areas of the squad need strengthening too. Arsenal fans would probably suggest it’s a new striker we should really be focusing on, but realistically we need to sign several players this summer.
Laurent Koscielny is a top quality centre-back, but Per Mertesacker, Gabriel Paulista, and Calum Chambers all have their glaring weaknesses. The German is slower than a sloth in quicksand, the Brazilian speaks about as much English as my cat, and Chambers just has a huge amount to learn.
A new centre-back could certainly be a massive boost, but only if we sign someone of the highest quality. There are probably other areas we should be focusing on, and that’s where the bulk of the money should go.
A striker is a must, as Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, and Theo Walcott just aren’t cutting it. All three have shown glimpses of real quality at times, and Giroud in particular doesn’t deserve the criticism he gets, but we certainly need to sign a world class forward to take us to the next level.
A central midfielder and a top quality wide player would be next on the list, although they are arguably not as much of a priority.

Regardless of who we sign, Wenger needs to make sure he brings some new faces to the club this summer, or the fans will riot. We’ve barely brought any new players to the club over the last few windows, and that needs to change.
