Arsene Wenger is apparently planning to raid Real Madrid once again this summer, hoping to add an out of favour Toni Kroos to the Arsenal ranks, according to the Daily Mirror.
Kroos has enjoyed mixed success since trading the Allianz Arena for the Santiago Bernabeu, and the former Bayern Munich midfielder seems like he could now be on the move again.
Wenger has history with Real following our acquisition of Mesut Özil, and is reportedly hoping to use that history to bring Kroos to the club.
The German international may not always have been at his best in the Spanish capital, but he’s still a top quality player. He scored a fantastic goal against England during the international break, and could be exactly the type of player we need to replace some of our ageing stars.
It also seems likely that he’d relish the chance to join up with a few of his compatriots at the Emirates too, potentially smoothing the transfer process and making a deal easier.
However, the Mirror claims Kroos is not Wenger’s first choice, with that honour falling on Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka. The Swiss international has been heavily linked with us recently, and we are apparently doing everything we can to secure his signature.

Arsenal transfer news
They are different players who share a few traits, with both liking to start attacks from deep. We arguably should be focusing our attention elsewhere in the transfer market, but we know Wenger has a love for technically gifted midfielders. The report suggests Southampton’s Victor Wanyama is also on the transfer wish-list, but he would be a very different option in midfield.
