Aaron Ramsey found the back of the net with a beautiful flick at White Hart Lane this past Saturday afternoon, opening the scoring in arguably the biggest North London Derby in years.
The Welshman benefited from some great play by Danny Welbeck and Hector Bellerin, out-foxing Hugo Lloris with a clever backheel just before half time.
We’d been under the cosh for large parts of the game, with Tottenham pressing high up the pitch and dominating possession. We barely had a sniff at goal in the opening half an hour, but as the game on we grew in confidence.
We were always threatening on the counter-attack, and that’s exactly how the goal came. Great work from Danny Welbeck down the left stretched the home defence a little, with Bellerin racing into the empty space created through a Ramsey forward run. Welbeck picked out the Spaniard with a clever cut-back, and despite calls for him to shoot Bellerin played a neat pass in to Ramsey.
Ramsey took it first time with a lovely back-heel, with the stadium erupting as Lloris failed to keep it out.

The dynamic completely changed after the goal, and we dominated until the end of the half. The pace of Welbeck was causing Tottenham some real problems, and a little more composure from the England international could have seen us extend our lead.

It’s only a 1-0 lead so we can’t get ahead of ourselves, but if we can pick up in the second half where we left in the first then we’re in with a great chance of getting a vital three points against one o four fiercest rivals.
