Olivier Giroud has struggled for goals recently, but he could hardly miss when David Meyler’s mistake gifted him a fantastic chance.
It had been a bang average half where we were concerned, and we were lacking creativity in the final third. It wasn’t exactly clear where the goals were going to come from, but thankfully Meyler was on hand to lend an assist.
The midfielder played a blind pass back to his keeper while under pressure, and it was an incredibly poor pass at that. It trickled into the path of Olivier Giroud, who lashed it through the keeper’s legs to make it 1-0.
We hadn’t exactly looked like scoring before the goal went in, and it seemed like we were going to go into half time with the scores level. Hull may now be forced to be a little more adventurous though, and that could allow us to push on and get a second and a third.

We shouldn’t really be making such hard work of Championship opposition, but with Arsene Wenger resting a number of our big names it’s half expected. Hopefully we don’t do anything stupid in the second 45 and are able to progress into the next round with no more complications.
