Ex-Arsenal shot-stopper Rami Shaaban claims Mohamed Elneny is the perfect Arsenal signing, and believes the Egyptian international has adapted superbly to life in the Premier League, as reported by Arsenal.com.
Shaaban was at Arsenal for a short period in the early 2000s, making just a handful of appearances for the club. Despite being a Swedish international though, he has Egyptian heritage, and knows Elneny quite well.
He spoke highly of the 23-year-old, and is thrilled with the way he’s adapted since his switch from FC Basel. He believes his style of play will fit in perfectly at Arsenal and the faith being shown in him by Arsene Wenger will help him settle in even quicker.
“Coming from where he has, taking that step from Basel to Arsenal, can be challenging,” he said.
“But some people manage to do it really well and he has definitely adapted.
“He has really adapted and I hope he gets more and more time. But it will take time.
“I hope he can make that step to be a regular and become something really big at Arsenal.
“Looking at Egyptian players historically, there have been some amazing talents but only a few have been able to take that step.
“I think that Mohamed Elneny will be one of them. I think he’s going to fit the club perfectly and listening to what the boss says about him as well only makes me more convinced.”
The midfielder has made just a handful of appearances since being signed from Basel, but his recent performances have been superb. His partnership with Francis Coquelin has looked really solid and has offered us something a little different.
We’ve really struggled since Santi Cazorla’s injury, and the partnership between Aaron Ramsey and Coquelin just hasn’t been successful. Too often the Welshman goes marauding forward and forgets his defensive duties, and the balance in midfield just isn’t right.
Elneny brings a little bit of everything, defensive stability, an excellent passing range, and the ability to attack and score the odd goal too.
Arsenal transfer news
Hopefully he continues in this vein and establishes himself as a key part of our setup. He looks more than capable of becoming another one of Arsene Wenger’s bargain buys, and while many fans are eager to see some marquee signings, we can hardly complain if we sign a top quality player for peanuts.
