Gabriel Paulista doesn’t seem to agree with Arsene Wenger’s assessment of his communication skills, and claims his English is more than good enough to understand and talk with his teammates, as reported by IBT.
The manager really criticised the Brazilian for his struggles with the English language, and cited it as one of the main reasons he was having problems at Arsenal. He’s been in and out of the starting XI sporadically this season, but a couple of poor performances have many questioning his quality.
“I would prefer him to have better English because in the fraction of a second sometimes someone can help you and communicate better,” Wenger said.
Gabriel is pleased with his English and the level of improvement he’s shown though, and believes he’s done enough to show he deserves more of a starting berth, The 25-year-old insists he’ll continue to work hard, and take his chances to prove Wenger wrong.
“I already understand my teammates on the pitch. I still miss some things but I am improving,” he explained.
“I’m really well. I’m already 100 per cent recovered from my last injury and now I just have to keep working to improve further.

“I still have a long way to go [to feel like a starter] but I’m working very hard even though the competition is high because my teammates are at the top level.
“I am training very hard and trying to take every opportunity in the games and I think I’m doing things right.”
Many were calling for the former Villarreal man to replace Per Mertesacker on a more regular basis earlier in the campaign, with his performances last season and some top displays toward the end of last year seeing his popularity skyrocket. A few disappointing showings have seen a change of tune though, and his quality is now being questioned.
Arsenal transfer news
We are likely to see more and more of Gabriel as the season goes on though, so hopefully he steps up and shows he’s capable of being part of our first-choice centre-back pairing.
