Promising young winger Emile Smith-Rowe has turned down offers from Barcelona and Tottenham in favour of staying where he is, signing a professional contract with Arsenal to keep him at the club, reported exclusively by Squawka.
The 15-year-old is seen as a truly bright star in the Arsenal academy, and while we’ve seen many promising youngsters fail to make the step up, the fact that he was being chased by the likes of Barcelona suggests real quality.
Smith-Rowe has been at Arsenal for nearly six years, and the club clearly have a lot of faith in him. They’ve managed to convince him is future lies at the Emirates, and that he has the ability to break into the first team.
We’re known for our ability to breed and nurture youth, so obviously Smith-Rowe will be confident that he’s in the right place to grow as a player. That said, Tottenham and Barcelona are also known for bringing talent up through the ranks, with the likes of Lionel Messi and Harry Kane great examples of their policies yielding results.
