Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has spouted some real rubbish after our 2-2 draw this past weekend, claiming his side proved they were the better side, and David Ospina was the only reason we got the draw, as reported by the Express.
“David Ospina was one of the best players on the pitch,” he said.
“We showed that we were better, but we are frustrated with the draw.”
It’s difficult to see how he can say Tottenham were the better side, as a better side probably would have taken all three points from 2-1 against ten men. They had the better of the opening exchanges, but rarely looked all that threatening. We took control after the opening goal, and it required us being reduced to ten men for them to really get back in the game. After a period of adjustment during which we went 2-1 behind, we picked ourselves up and went back on the offensive. We were arguably more of a threat even with the numbers disadvantage, and after Alexis Sanchez’s goal we perhaps should have got the win.
While David Ospina unquestionably had a good game, he didn’t really make too many saves you wouldn’t expect your keeper to make. His first half save against Erik Lamela and his second half goal-line stop were fantastic, but he spilled a couple of shots he perhaps shouldn’t have too.
We need the Colombian to step up when given the chance, as we can’t afford to concede sloppy goals at this point in the season. A goalkeeper is expected to make saves, and Ospina was generally reliable and solid against Tottenham. We can certainly thank him for the point, but the whole team deserves some credit.
Arsenal transfer news
Tottenham really weren’t the better side, and hopefully this draw will hurt them and we can capitalise in the coming weeks.
