In one of the more ridiculous rumours we’ve heard in a while, Mesut Özil is being linked with a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce, as reported by Hurriyet (via the Express).
Özil is known to be Fenerbahce fan, and he’s spoken before about his desire to play for the club at some point in his career. That almost certainly won’t be anytime soon though, as he’d be mad to trade Arsenal for European minnows Fenerbahce at this point in his career.
The report claims he’s already held talks with the Turkish club about a potential move, which in itself is likely to be complete rubbish. Not only is it totally against the rules to discuss a deal with more than two years left on your current contract, but why would he even want to talk about making the massive step down from Arsenal to Fenerbahce.
There has been plenty of talk about Özil leaving the club this summer, with our lack of trophies and Arsene Wenger’s lack of ambition apparently giving the German playmaker cause to rethink his future.
Despite these reports though, Özil insists the stories are rubbish, and Wenger was a large part of the reason he made the switch to Arsenal in the first place.

The World Cup winner has unquestionably been our best player this season, and has arguably been among the best in the Premier League. And although not everyone at Arsenal has been at his level this season – or even close – he’s still looked happy at the club.
Arsenal transfer news
At 27-years-old there’s no reason for him to throw his career away with Fenerbahce, so it’s incredibly hard to see this rumour being anything other than two and two making five.
