There is growing fan unrest at Arsenal, with many feeling like Arsene Wenger has overstayed his welcome. Many are wondering who could replace him, and it seems the favourite for the job is current Southampton boss Ronald Koeman, according to The Sun.
While the Saints haven’t been outstanding, Koeman has certainly been doing an excellent job. They are unquestionably a selling club, having sold all their best players over the last few seasons and reinvesting very little. Koeman has still managed to enjoy some success though, and has gotten the best out of some very average players.
While it’s hard to argue that Wenger’s time at Arsenal should now be drawing to a close – whether he leaves this summer or the next – it’s massively important that we find the right successor. Wenger hasn’t been getting the best out of the players recently, with his tactical failings and inability to motivate the players a real concern. We’ve seen the impact of getting things wrong when it comes to managerial replacements though, and we don’t want to be thrown into turmoil for the next few years.
Koeman seems like the safe choice in all honesty, a solid manager who has well since coming to the Premier League. Experience of the English top flight will obviously be a bonus, as it’s not a league that is suited to everybody’s game. He doesn’t seem like the manager that will take us to the next level, but really who is there out there?
Arsenal transfer news
Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone would be absolutely ideal, but unfortunately he seems unlikely to be available. There really aren’t many other top quality and experienced managers out there, so if not Ronald Koeman then we’d probably end up going for a less known name – or at the very least someone with less experience.
