Ex-Arsenal star Lee Dixon was critical of just how far the club have fallen in recent years, suggesting that the Jamie Vardy transfer is evidence of how things have changed.

Taking to Twitter to voice his opinion, Dixon suggested that the Vardy debacle was a sign of the changing times.
I just think it’s a sign of the times all round that JV is considering the offer made by AFC. There was a day when The Arsenal was enough

Vardy looked close to making a £20m switch to Arsenal over the weekend, with Arsene Wenger activating the 29-year-old’s release clause (via The Evening Standard). As the report states though, the player is now apparently “80 percent” sure that he’ll turn down the switch, instead choosing to remain with Leicester City.
Dixon is right when he says that times have clearly changed, as even a year or two ago no player in their right mind would turn down a switch from Leicester to Arsenal. The Premier League is now more closely contested than ever though, and making the move from one club to another in the English top flight is no longer always a simple answer.

Arsenal transfer news
Obviously with Leicester winning the title last season, when you look at the table a move to second placed Arsenal would technically be a step down. You have to expect that Leicester will be nowhere near the same position this time next year though, while we will still be among the favourites to lift the Premier League title.
Despite the reports, we have no way of telling for sure whether Vardy is actually planning on turning down Arsenal, and it may simply be the case that the news won’t be announced until after the Euro 2016 Championships.
