Wissam Ben Yedder has emerged as a surprise target for Arsenal with reports from France claiming that the forward will choose between either the Gunners or Spanish side Sevilla in the coming hours.
Like almost every forward in European football, Ben Yedder has been linked with a move to West Ham United in recent months, so today’s links come as a surprise.
The 26 year-old plays for Toulouse and scored 17 goals in 35 Ligue 1 matches for the side last season. Ben Yedder has scored consistently for his club in recent seasons, finishing as Toulouse’s top scorer in each of the last four years. This is even more impressive considering his club’s lowly performances in the league. Ben Yedder has almost singlehandedly kept Toulouse in Ligue 1 for a couple of years with the club finishing just one spot away from relegation for two consecutive seasons.
The transfer links come from the Canal+ African football expert, Ludo Deroin. He wrote on Twitter that he expected the Toulouse forward to make the move to either Arsenal or Sevilla in the coming hours, although there have been no other reports to suggest that is the case.
Ben Yedder’s availability is undoubted, and the links to both Arsenal and Sevilla make sense. The forward is in the last year of his contract, and Toulouse Chairman Olivier Sadran has stated that the forward will be leaving with a price rumoured to be £8.4 million, according to Goal .
Sevilla’s link to the forward is also plausible. Last season’s top scorer Kevin Gameiro is reportedly close to joining FC Barcelona and new manager Jorge Sampaoli will undoubtedly need a replacement.
He’s certainly a different sort of player to Olivier Giroud and would provide the side with a different option moving forward. He’s 5’7, pacy, and can score goals with both feet and while he may not be amongst the world’s best forwards, he’s better than nobody and a great option at a relatively low price.
