Arsenal are without a host of first team stars ahead of the pre-season friendly against Lens but expect a strong starting line-up.
It’s the first pre-season friendly of the season and Arsene Wenger will take his players to the north of France for the matchup against the Ligue 2 side. It will be the last chance for Wenger to see his team in action before he travels with his squad to the United States for a pre-season tour. The whirlwind U.S. trip will see the Gunners take on an MLS All-Stars team on 28 July before a match against Chivas Guadalajara on 31 July. The Gunners will also take on Viking FK before a match against Manchester City.
Arsenal are certainly favourites for the tie if you are after some Sports Betting Tips, and will hope to push Lens to their limits if they can play with the handbrake off. But given the summer holidays are freshly over, we will expect to see a tightly contested tie.
Kick-off is 7:00pm GMT and the match is beings streamed live on the Arsenal website.
Arsenal are obviously missing a number of first team players following the European Championships and Copa America tournaments this summer. Aaron Ramsey, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny, and Olivier Giroud all reached the latter stages of the tournaments for their respective teams and have been given an extended break by the club.
However there are a number of big name players who could feature including Per Mertesacker, Theo Walcott, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Expect a mix of youth and experience from the Arsenal line-up with changes aplenty.
Possible Starting XI:
Subs: Gedion Zelalem, Ben Sheaf, Krystian Bielik, Joel Campbell, Marcus McGuane, Yaya Sanogo, Chuba Akpom, Chris Willock
Lens under the Lens
Arsenal’s opponents Lens were relegated from Ligue 1 in 2015 and finished 6th in Ligue 2 last year. The club won Ligue 1 as early as 18 years ago but has since moved into somewhat obscurity. Manager Alain Casanova took over in the summer and has so far brought in a number of players including former PSG goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez as well as former Spurs midfielder John Bostock. Arsenal signed attacking midfielder Jeff Reine-Adelaide from the club last season.
Prediction: 3-1 Arsenal’s quality to edge it out in a rusty performance.
