Jack Wilshere is looking forward to lining up alongside Arsenal new boy Granit Xhaka ahead of the preseason fixture against MLS All-Stars and feels the Swiss international can ‘hold the midfield together’ (via Arsenal.com).
Arsenal fans will get a chance to see the new £30million signing on Thursday as the Gunners face a number of high profile players currently plying their trade in the USA. Wenger confirmed the midfielder will make his debut in San Jose, and could line up alongside fellow left-footer Wilshere in what may become an exciting midfield combination.
The Englishman feels Xhaka, a player he has faced at international level a number of times, will fit in well at Arsenal and heralded the 23-year-old as a ‘good signing’.
“I’ve played against him a few times at youth level for England and also for the first team with England, so I know him quite well,” Wilshere told Arsenal.com. “I’ve always thought he was a good player, he’s very strong and has got a good left foot.
“He’s a leader, he can hold the midfield together and can get things going from back to front. He’s a good signing.”
The thought of a dynamic, combative midfielder that is very creative and can switch the ball with ease is mouthwatering especially alongside Wilshere. Whether the two manage to enjoy a fruitful partnership this season based on their style of play or Wilshere’s injury woes it remains to be seen. But Arsene Wenger’s options in the engine room are looking plentiful and exciting.

The England international is also looking forward to facing a number of big names for the MLS All-Stars, with the likes of Didier Drogba, Andre Pirlo and Kaka all on show.
“Yes, I’m very excited about the game,” Wilshere added. “These are players I looked up to when I was growing up – the likes of Pirlo and Kaka.
“My generation looked up to them. They have been at the top of their game for more than ten years and it will be nice to play against them.”
The match is set to kick off at 1.01am Friday morning (GMT).
