Arsenal have been watching Roma defender Kostas Manolas as they continue their search for a centre back. The 25-year-old has been at the club for two years and has made 23 appearances for the Greek National Team (via The Daily Mail).
The newest centre back to be linked with a move to the Emirates is Kostas Manolas. The Greek centre back is a powerful player who is also pretty decent in possession and could be a good addition to the Gunners.
It was believed for a long time that Arsenal would be bringing in Valencia centre back Shkodran Mustafi during this window but the Spanish club are reportedly demanding £50 million for the player. The German World Cup winner is undoubtedly a quality player but there are far better options for that sort of money.
It’s good news that the club are looking at options other than Mustafi and so they have turned their attention to Manolas. A scout attended Roma’s match against Porto on Tuesday evening in the Champions League play-off round. The Italian side were beaten 3-0 and eliminated from the competition which could increase Manolas’ desire for a transfer.
Manolas is an excellent player and would improve the squad should he move to Arsenal. However the club are just monitoring him at the moment and any possible deal seems a long way off. We’ll just have to wait and see with this one.
