Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry is set to sign for Bayern Munich, according to Sky Sports in Germany. The 21-year-old impressed over the summer at the Olympics but the two clubs have agreed a deal for the player (via Sky Sports).
In one of the more surprising stories of the summer, Arsenal are set to lose Serge Gnabry to Bayern Munich. The winger is set to join the Bundesliga giants after the two clubs agreed a deal. The move will see Gnabry move out on loan to Werder Bremen before returning to the German champions.
The move will come as a surprise to those who read Arsene Wenger’s comments on the player just a few weeks ago.
“I want to keep Serge Gnabry and extend his contract,” Wenger said on 18 August. “I think we stood by him for a long time. He went to West Brom and didn’t get a game. We had to rebuild his confidence when he came back.
“I allowed him to go to the Olympic Games – without having played for us at all – to get him back to competition and to help Germany so I think he’s here now for a long time and it’s important that he stays with us.”
It seems strange that The Boss would make these comments just two weeks before agreeing a deal to sell the player. It was expected that the loan move for Joel Campbell to Sporting CP would free up space in the squad for Gnabry but it now seems that is not the case. Combine this with the potential loan move away for Jack Wilshere and it could be that the club is making space for a potential new signing. With just two days left in the transfer window, stay tuned for more details.
