David Luiz is set to rejoin Chelsea, Manchester City have loaned out half a team, and Spurs are bidding big for a Championship player. Here we round up all the transfer news for Arsenal’s Premier League rivals on Deadline Day.
The big news is that Chelsea are reportedly close to re-signing David Luiz from PSG. The Brazilian defender moved to Paris from Stamford Bridge in 2014 for an incredible fee of £50 million. It was the deal of the decade for Chelsea but now the Blues look to be undoing that by bringing the defender back to London. Le Parisien reports that the Brazilian is on the Eurostar train to complete the move and Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte claims the fee could be upwards of £45 million. The £35 million transfer of Shkodran Mustafi is looking better and better.
Pep Guardiola has left it until Deadline Day to clear Manchester City out of the players he deems surplus to requirements. Joe Hart has completed his move to Torino, Wilfried Bony has signed for Stoke on loan, and Arsenal fan favourite Samir Nasri has signed for Valencia, also on loan.
Spurs fans had reason to be optimistic this morning. They were linked with a move for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco. The player was reportedly choosing between White Hart Lane and a move to former side Malaga but has since been told by his club that he will not be allowed to leave.
Spurs have now turned their attention to Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko. The 27-year-old would reportedly cost Daniel Levy and Tottenham upwards of £30 million and would expect 5 payments of £6 million.
It seems like it will be a quiet Deadline Day at Old Trafford. United have already done their business for the summer with the signings of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Eric Bailly. The club are reportedly finding it difficult to get a few players out with Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and Phil Jones all expected to stay at the club.
The big story coming out of the home of the champions is the news that Leicester have agreed a club record fee of £35 million for striker Islam Slimani. The Algerian is due to fly to England for a medical after scoring 27 times for Sporting CP last season.
