While speculation surrounds Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere over his loan move, Serie A club AC Milan has made a surprise move for Aaron Ramsey. The Wales star hasn’t been an active name during the summer transfer window but alarm bells are ringing for some Gunners fans after this new story has broken.
AC Milan had been chasing former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas but TuttoMercatoWeb reports that the Italian club’s failure to convince Chelsea to sell has diverted their interest to Ramsey. According to the Italian media, Milan’s sporting director Adriano Galliani contacted the Welshman’s representatives to enquire about his availability.
The 25-year-old certainly caught the eye during Euro 2016 with his impressive performances for Wales. The midfielder played a vital role in his team’s success in the competition with four assists to his name, the joint-highest in the tournament alongside Eden Hazard. However it is still a surprise that Milan have been linked with a move for the player, especially at this late stage.
The Wales international is an important player for the club and it would be very strange if Arsenal let him go. Last season Ramsey made a total of 35 appearances in all competitions for The Gunners, scoring seven goals and assisting a further five. His goals had helped Gunners salvage points against both Tottenham and Liverpool.
The midfielder adds depth to Arsenal’s play and gives their game more flair. His passing accuracy stood at an impressive 86% and he created a total of 37 chances in the Premier League last season. Although not usually the side’s most eye-catching player on the pitch, Ramsey is influential.
Arsenal have already sold midfielder Serge Gnabry to Werder Bremen and Jack Wilshere is on his way out on a season-long loan deal, any further losses from the squad would mean trouble for Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman has managed to silence fans with the signings of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez, and wouldn’t risk outraging the fans by letting Ramsey go. The Welsh midfielder is an important player and it is far too late in the window to find a suitable replacement.
