Tony Pulis has hinted that Jonny Evans could join the Gunners before the transfer window closes if the club submit an official bid. He may not be the defender most Arsenal fans want but the West Brom man could be on the move.
The Gunners will still need to make an official bid for the 28-year-old centre-back, revealed the West Brom manager (via the Evening Standard), as rumours continue to link the former Manchester United man with an Emirates Stadium move.
“If Arsenal come in for Jonny we will do it between the clubs,” The Evening Standard quoted Pulis as saying.
“I am not going to sit here and talk about doing a deal with anyone.
“We want him to stay with us because he’s outstanding. He was most probably our best player against Palace.”
Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal with Valencia for Shkodran Mustafi; however, a move for the West Brom defender appears more likely for a number of reasons. First of all, Evans may not be a Premier League star, but his knowledge of the English top-tier means his integration into Wenger’s starting eleven would be a breeze.

In addition, Le Prof’s decision to name Per Mertesacker as club captain means the retired German international still remains in Arsene’s plans. With Koscielny a top defender, the Gunners boss will likely resort to his preferred Laurent-Per partnership once Mertesacker recovers.
Another reason why Wenger may move for Evans: he’s versatile, as stated by Pulis. “Thing is with Jonny, I think he could play anywhere. Reads the game so well, never gives ball away, great addition to squad and well respected in the dressing room.”
The supporters won’t be on cloud nine should the West Brom defender arrive in north London. There are certainly more exciting targets on the market but maybe Jonny Evans wouldn’t be the worst signing Arsenal could make at this stage.
