Arsene Wenger has said he is “99% confident” of signing at least one player before the transfer window shuts next week. It has emerged in the last 24 hours that Arsenal are close to signing both Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez (via Arsenal.com).
It’s not always the case but Arsenal fans are strangely optimistic about their club’s dealings in the transfer market right now. It emerged yesterday that The Gunners are close to signing two players with a medical scheduled for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi and a fee agreed for Deportivo striker Lucas Perez. Arsene Wenger has spoken about the deals and what he expects from the transfer window.
“We are working on the deals.” Wenger said at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Gunners’ trip to Watford this weekend. “We are not close enough to announce for you today that they will sign for us. Will we sign anybody before the end of the transfer window? I am 99% confident.”
Wenger also spoke about the transfer window in general and what he expects from Deadline Day. “Honestly? It was a strange transfer market.” The Frenchman said. “I expected it to be easier than ever but it was more difficult than ever. Not a lot has happened.
“It looks like when you come out with an English passport you hit prices that are very hard to understand compared to the quality of the players. It will be frenetic in the last three days. Everybody sat on these pounds until now but they will splash out now. The next three days will be very, very busy so be on alert!”
The Boss was in a good mood and joked with the press. When asked if this spending finally puts to bed the idea that he is tight with money, Wenger replied, “It’s a shame you aren’t my friend, you will see you go out with me I spend a lot of money!”
