Liverpool have joined Arsenal in monitoring Serie A striker Gregoire Defrel. The Frenchman signed for Sassuolo last season and has scored seven goals in nine matches for the club this term (via The Daily Mail).
He may not be a familiar name to most but Gregoire Defrel has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs in recent seasons. The Frenchman was a summer target for Swansea City and Crystal Palace but seems to have upped his performances this season and is now attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in England.
Arsenal are one of them. The Gunners have sent scouts to watch the 25-year-old who only joined his current club in 2015 but has been one of the best forwards in Italy this term. Defrel was born in France but has spent his career in Italy with Parma, Cesena and now Sassuolo.
The Gunners were previously linked with another Sassuolo player. Domenico Berardi was rumoured to be an Arsenal target earlier in the year but it now seems that the club are monitoring his teammate.
It’s unclear how likely any possible transfer is but it’s a good sign that Arsene Wenger is still looking at ways to improve the squad. Olivier Giroud isn’t getting any younger and it’s unclear how Lucas Perez will settle at the club so Arsenal still may need to sign another striker in the coming seasons.
