Olivier Giroud has been ruled out of today’s match against Hull City after picking up an injury during the match against PSG. The French forward was the subject of a late fitness test which was failed and the forward has subsequently not travelled with the squad (via Goal.com).
Olivier Giroud is yet to start for The Gunners this season and it seems that we won’t see the French forward from the off today either. The 29-year-old has been ruled out of the match against Hull City after failing a late fitness test on a injury.
Arsene Wenger mentioned a possible injury during his pre-match press conference and revealed that it was a problem with the striker’s big toe. “He had a knock on Tuesday night,” Wenger said. “I have to check if he is fit and available.”
It seems that the check revealed that Giroud’s problem was worse than first feared. It’s an irritation for both the striker himself and the club. Giroud has taken some time to come back into the side following the European Championships and that is noticed by Wenger.
“He has been a bit behind at the start fitness wise.” The Boss said. “He was behind Koscielny and Özil, at the start it took him some time to get back but since last week he is slowly getting back to full fitness now.”
That return to full fitness will have to wait following today’s news. It’s an annoyance for Arsenal fans but not the end of the world. New signing Lucas Perez can come into the side as Giroud’s replacement and hopefully the Spaniard can show what he can do at The KCOM Stadium.
