Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi is set to return from injury for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Southampton. The 20-year-old missed the matches against Leicester City and Watford but should be back in time for the match at the Emirates (via Red London).
It wasn’t exactly the ideal opening match of the season for Arsenal. The 4-3 defeat to Liverpool was made worse when Aaron Ramsey and Alex Iwobi both limped off the pitch with injuries. Fortunately the international break meant that the pair only missed a couple of Premier League matches and one of them is set to return this weekend.
Arsenal face Southampton in the Premier League at the Emirates on Saturday and Alex Iwobi is set to make his comeback. The Nigerian international tweeted last week that he is back in training and could now be in contention for a place in the squad for the weekend.
Iwobi scored two goals in 13 Premier League matches during his breakout season last year. The 20-year-old is one of the brightest young players in the squad and will hopefully build on that this term.
However Iwobi faces stiff competition. Alexis Sanchez looks on form and the English pair Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both fit and contesting for the wide midfield places. The Gunners also have new signing Lucas Perez in contention for Saturday’s match and fans will be eager to see the new man in action.
