Arsenal’s Francis Coquelin is set to miss just two weeks with the knee injury he picked up against Chelsea on the weekend. It was feared that the midfielder would be out for a matter of months but reports in France suggest otherwise (via l’Equipe).
It was an outstanding evening for Arsenal fans on Saturday but the one blotch on the display was the sight of Francis Coquelin limping off in the first half. The Frenchman was excellent for the first 30 minutes against The Blues but came off second best in a challenge with Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.
We reported yesterday that the Frenchman will be sidelined until December but fresh reports seem to indicate otherwise. French publication l’Equipe claims that the Arsenal man will miss just over two weeks with the injury.
Arsene Wenger stated his concern over the midfielder’s fitness in the aftermath of the injury. ‘We don’t know if the damage is as big at the moment,” Wenger said. “We have to wait for 48 hours but he left the stadium in a brace. I’m a bit worried over that.”
Now it seems that Wenger’s fears can be put to rest. Arsenal have Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka ready to step in for Coquelin in the coming weeks but the update on the Frenchman’s fitness is certainly good news.
