Just six months after a contract renewal Alex Iwobi is set for an improved deal, his second of the year after cementing himself in the Arsenal lineup.
The 20-year-old debuted for the Gunners in last season’s EFL Cup upset against Sheffield Wednesday. Since then he has climbed the ranks and become a regular feature in Wenger’s team this season.
According to the Daily Mirror, Iwobi is expected to sign a new Arsenal contract with an improved package. The striker penned a new contract in April earlier this year making his earning rise up to £25,000-a-week.
However, now the Nigeria international is in line to sign an agreement with a further extension reflecting his increased stake in the team.
The Nigerian has three assists to his name in all Premier League appearances he has made since August and is expected to continue as a regular against Swansea next week ahead of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lucas Perez.
The forward is also in contention to being short-listed for the African Football Player of the Year award following his recent displays on the pitch and is expected to offer tough competition to his fellow compatriots.
His improved performances and rise to stardom in such a short span of time are the reasons why Arsenal are keen on keeping the forward. Iwobi becomes the fourth player who is set to be offered a fresh deal, including Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez who are all yet to put pen to paper and commit to the club.
It is expected the Gunners will be able to tie down all of these players with money no issue, however in the case of Sanchez and Ozil, silverware is a priority.
