Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the toughest defender he has ever faced is former Arsenal full-back Ashley Cole.
Cole spent seven years with the Gunners winning two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with Arsene Wenger’s side before leaving for Chelsea in acriminous circumstances.
The defender took on Ronaldo during his time with both Premier League clubs as well as for England against Portugal and the Real Madrid star says he always found it tough going.
“Over the years I had some great battles with Ashley Cole, he does not give you a second to breathe,” Ronaldo said via Sky Sports.
“He was such a tenacious player when he was at his peak, quick, tough in the tackle. You knew it would never be an easy game.”
Cole’s controversial departure from Arsenal led to many fans turning against him and the defender earning the nickname ‘Cashley’ as well as tarnishing his legacy at the club.

However, the full-back was undoubtedly one of the best in the club’s history and was an integral part of the 2002 double winining side as well as the Invincibles.
As well as his defensive qualities his partnership with Robert Pires on the left also caused huge problems in attack. Cole was also a vital player for England, winning 107 caps for the Three Lions during his international career.
