Theo Walcott believes Mesut Ozil has gone up a level this season after watching the Germany international bag a hat-trick against Ludogorets in the Champions League.
Walcott scored his eighth goal of the season against the Bulgarian side but was completely overshadowed by Ozil who scored three second-half goals as Arsenal ran riot at the Emirates.
The England international feels his team-mate is in peak condition and has added an extra dimension to his game this season.
“He showed me how to score a hat-trick anyway,” Walcott told Sky Sports. “He’s worked really hard, he’s looking strong and fit and you can see there’s a new aggressive level about his play.
“He’s ruthless in front of goal just now and chipping in with a lot more goals, so hopefully it can continue.”
The Gunners have won their last seven games to shrug off a slow start and sit top of their Champions League group as well as level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
Walcott feels the current squad, which saw Shkrodran Mustafi, Granit Xhaka and Lucas Perez arrive in the summer, has the potential to go a long way.
“I said last year this team has underperformed,” Walcott added. “It could potentially be the best squad I’ve been amongst: technically, some of these players are fantastic to be around.”
Ozil certainly looks to be at his very best and Arsenal will be hoping he can maintain his current form and hopefully sign a new deal that will ensure his long-term future is at the club.
