Reports in Italy indicate that Arsenal are ready spend over €35 Million on Torino striker Andrea Belotti. The Italian frontman has 8 goals in 10 matches for the Serie A side this season and at just 22 years old, is one for the future (via Sport Witness).
Andrea Belotti is hardly a household name in Britain but if this transfer comes off then he might soon be. The Italian striker is reportedly a target for Arsenal with rumours that the Gunners are looking to spend upwards of €35 Million on the player.
Belotti was reportedly the subject of interest from West Ham over the summer but given the player’s form this term, a move to the Hammers doesn’t seem to fit anymore. The forward has scored 8 goals in 10 matches in Serie A this season and that form has led to a call-up to the Italian national team. Belotti has adapted incredibly well to the Azzurri and has three goals in his first four senior appearances.
The Torino man plays alongside Joe Hart and must be considered one of the best young players in Italian football today. Belotti is part of a new wave of young talent for the 2006 World Champions in a group of players which also includes Domenico Berardi, Daniele Rugani and the 17-year-old goalkeeping sensation Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Arsenal were ready to spend big on the player several weeks ago and the price quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport is upwards of €35 Million. However, given the player’s form this season and the current transfer market, Torino are looking for a much higher figure for their star man. The Italian paper claims that the player’s value is around €60 million in this market which casts some doubt over whether a move would be viable.
Arsenal have options up front once everyone is back fit. Alexis Sanchez has been in excellent form this season and Arsene Wenger can call upon Olivier Giroud or Lucas Perez from the bench if necessary. It’s good that the club is looking at some of the best young players but at the moment, €60 million for Belotti just isn’t worth it. Unless Torino lower their price or the player continues to showcase this form over a longer period of time then it’s difficult to see Belotti at the Emirates any time soon.
