Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to sign Arsenal star Mesut Özil next summer if the German continues to stall on his new contract. Özil played under the current United boss while the pair were at Real Madrid and reports indicate that Mourinho wants to link up again (via The Sun)
It’s the sort of story which Arsenal fans would dread. One of the best players the club has had in years being linked with a move to not just Manchester United, but a Manchester United managed by Jose Mourinho.
The Sun reports that the Portuguese boss wants to make a move for the Arsenal midfielder next summer if he continues to stall on his new contract. The negotiations over the German’s new deal seem to have been going on for months and the article in The Sun claims that it’s because of a disagreement over salary.
Özil already earns £140,000 per week and the club’s offer of an additional £20,000 per week falls way short of what the German reportedly wants. Meanwhile, money isn’t really an object for Manchester United and Mourinho would reportedly be willing to offer the German upwards of £250,000 per week.
It’s unclear how much truth is in these claims. It’s certainly no secret that Jose Mourinho is a massive fan of the player but the article does state that Özil is happy at Arsenal and doesn’t want to leave. This could just be an attempt from Mourinho to unhinge both club and player ahead of the clash between the two teams next week.
