Mesut Ozil wants to return to Real Madrid and regrets leaving the Bernabeu, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
The Germany international left the Spanish side in 2013 for the Gunners but has now approached Zinedine Zidane’s side about a sensational return to Bernabeu.
Ozil is contracted to Arsenal until 2018 but is yet to agree a contract extension with reports claiming he wants £250,000-per-week to stay at the club.
Marca claims that both Ozil, and Angel Di Maria currently at Paris Saint-Germain, are assessing their futures and have realised how much they enjoyed playing for los Blancos.
Madrid present Florentino Perez is reportedly aware of both players’ desire to return and is interested in the duo who he feels could give the squad a boost.
The World Cup winner struggled initially after moving to the Gunners but, along with Alexis Sanchez, has emerged as one of the club’s key players.
Arsene Wenger has admitted he is desperate to keep hold of both his top stars and has previously insisted he believes Ozil wants to stay at the club.
The 28-year-old has also been linked with a move to Fenerbahce as speculation over his future continues while his contract remains unsigned.
Arsenal will be desperate to keep hold of Ozil, but any return to the Bernabeu looks unlikely with the club currently under a transfer embargo that prevents them signing players until January 2018.
