Bayern Munich defender David Alaba would favour a move to Arsenal over Manchester United should he leave Allianz Arena, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The Austria international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks with Jose Mourinho believed to be keen to strengthen his defence.
The controversial Portuguese has publicly criticised both Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw recently for a perceived unwillingness to play through the pain barrier.
With summer signing Eric Bailly also injured the Red Devils have been short of numbers in defence and reportedly scouted Alaba on international duty for Austria recently.
However, the defender is reportedly a boyhood Arsenal fan and should he be tempted away from Bayern he would be keen to move to London and not Manchester.
The defender signed a new contract with the Bundesliga champions earlier this year but Carlo Ancelotti’s side have been knocked off the top of the table and currently lie three points behind RB Leipzig.
One stumbling block for the Gunners, who are thought to be interested in Alaba, could be his price with the 24-year-old valued at around £34 million.
Alaba’s quality is undeniable and his versatility, he can play either in defence or midfield is a huge asset, although having signed a new Bayern deal only six months ago a move away looks unlikely.
While Arsenal fans will be delighted to hear such a quality players favours a move to the Gunners rather than Manchester United, there is little to suggest Alaba is in any rush to leave Ancelotti’s side at the moment.
