Arsenal have reportedly asked the Chilean FA to send Alexis Sanchez back to London after his injury scare. The 27-year-old picked up a muscular strain a few days ago and with varying reports over its severity, the Gunners want the player back in London (via The Mail).
It was hardly the ideal news on Tuesday evening. Just two days after the disappointing draw against Spurs, Arsenal fans got another dose of disappointment when the story broke that Alexis Sanchez had picked up an injury while training for his country.
Initial fears indicated that the Chilean could miss a few months but as time went on, news started to filter through that the injury wasn’t as bad as first feared. The Chilean Football Federation and the player himself were hopeful that Sanchez could return as soon as Chile’s match next week. The player is reportedly eager to take part in the match against Uruguay next week but his club have other ideas.
The Mail reports that Arsenal have told the Chilean Federation to send the player back to London. Arsene Wenger and the Gunners are reportedly concerned about the situation and would like the player back in England in order to undergo further testing and avoid needlessly aggravating the injury.
It’s very easy to see the arguments of each side in this debate. Chile and Sanchez are both undoubtedly keen to play in such a big game but the concerns of Arsenal are valid. If the injury is more severe than feared then Sanchez taking part in the match against Uruguay could make matters much worse. The Gunners would also undoubtedly be keen for their star man to play against Manchester United next weekend but we’ll just have to wait and see how this progresses.
