Aaron Ramsey has revealed why he opted to sign for Arsenal instead of Manchester United and says the Gunners made him feel more wanted.
The midfielder was a man in-demand after impressing for Cardiff City and came close to moving to Old Trafford with the club even going so far as to announce on their website they had agreed a fee for the then-17-year-old.
However, Ramsey eventually opted for the Gunners and says the influence of manager Arsene Wenger was huge in his decision to move to north London.
“I went up there to see the facilities and I went to see Arsene Wenger,” he told Sky Sports.
“He did a lot to try and get me to this club. As a 17-year-old, flying out on a private jet to his hotel [in Switzerland for Euro 2008] was surreal but I think I made the right decision.
“I just felt a bit more wanted by Arsenal and by the boss.”
Ramsey will come face-to-face with the Red Devils on Saturday when the Gunners travel to Old Trafford and says he is hopeful of a rare Premier League win over Manchester United on their own turf.
“We are in a great position at the moment and have started the season very well,” he added. “They have had a lot of change over the summer and have some very exciting players, so I’m sure it will be a tasty encounter.”
Ramsey’s decision to chose Arsenal over Manchester United was certainly a huge blow for the Red Devils, who had appeared confident they would land the teenager, and he will be hoping to once again show them what they missed out on on Saturday.
