Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Southampton may have been a disappointment to most Gooners but the night was not a complete disaster for all supporters.
Goals from and Jordy Clasie and Ryan Bertrand inflicted a first defeat on Arsene Wenger’s side since the opening day of the season and knocked them out of the EFL Cup.
Wenger selected a heavily-changed team for the clash with the Saints, making 10 changes from the side that beat Bournemouth on Sunday.
However, the hosts put in a subdued display and were dispatched from the competition with Southampton setting up a semi-final clash with Liverpool.
While there were a few jeers from the crowd at the final whistle, one fan certainly had a productive evening by managing to complete his homework during the game!

Although it was a disappointing night and the defeat ended Arsenal’s long unbeaten run, the club may not be too upset at having exited the competition that clearly ranks at the bottom of their priorities this season.
Wenger’s team selection revealed where his priorities lie this campaign and may be somewhat relieved at not having an extra two fixtures forced into a busy January schedule.
Next up for the Gunners is a trip to the London Stadium to face West Ham who were also knocked out of the competition on Wednesday night after a 4-1 defeat at Old Trafford to Manchester United.
The Gunners will be hoping to bounce back from their midweek disappointment and will have to improve on last season when they failed to beat the Hammers in both league meetings.
