Arsene Wenger has dismissed speculation he could be set to make a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema this summer.
The France international has been linked with a move away from Bernabeu, as has Alvaro Morata who has reportedly become frustrated with a lack of game time.
Wenger was asked about the speculation during Monday’s pre-match press conference and, in particular, why Arsenal are continually linked with the striker.
“Because he is French?” he answered before adding. ““Maybe there are some noises he will leave Madrid. But there’s no need for us to buy any striker.
“In the summer window… that’s not my worry at the moment.”
Wenger also suggested that Carl Jenkinson’s proposed move to Crystal Palace was set to fall through.

“There is no news,” he explained. “We are still open because we have many players in that position.
“At the moment, it doesn’t look like it will happen.”
The transfer window closes on Tuesday but Wenger is not expecting much activity, particularly for his club.
“It has been very quiet. On our front, we have a big squad and don’t need to buy. Generally, it has been very quiet,” he said.
“It shows there are not many players available who can strengthen the Premier League teams. That’s why not a lot has happened.”
Arsenal are certainly well-stocked attacking-wise particularly following the return from injury of Danny Welbeck, who will feel like a new signing in many ways after a lengthy spell out of the game.
