Arsene Wenger thinks Olivier Giroud has improved immensely since joining the club in 2012. Giroud has scored 91 goals for the Gunners since making the move from Montpellier and Wenger thinks the forward is a “fighter.” (via Arsenal.com)
Amid the very public contract negotiations for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil, Arsenal quietly wrapped up new deals for a number of other players. On Thursday morning it was announced that Laurent Koscielny, Francis Coquelin and Olivier Giroud have all agreed new deals at the Emirates. Olivier Giroud has been at the club since 2012 and should now be there for a lot longer and Wenger believes that the forward deserves it.
“He’s a player who has big international experience,” Wenger told Arsenal.com “He has played many international games, many Champions League games and he’s much more confident today that he belongs where he plays.
“But I believe technically he has improved tremendously and that he has qualities that nobody else has. On top of that, he’s a fighter. He has shown that again against West Brom [Bournemouth and Preston].”
Giroud’s goals have certainly helped the Gunners this season. Wenger didn’t even mention the forward’s impact on the matches against Manchester United and Sunderland earlier in the season. Giroud is proving to be an important player in this squad and the boss agrees.
“He can have a challenge, face it and put the effort in ready to achieve it. Overall, I think he’s a much more complete player than when he arrived.”

Giroud has scored 91 goals for Arsenal in the 206 games he has played. He gets a lot of criticism – particularly from some Arsenal fans – but with nearly a goal every other game over four-and-a-half years, he’s clearly an effective striker and the club have done well to secure his services for another couple of years.
