Arsene Wenger has revealed that Olivier Giroud’s goal ranks in his top five favourite Arsenal goals after the striker’s sensational effort against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The France international opened the scoring with a simply brilliant scorpion kick, that went in off the bar and is surely the finest goal of the season so far.
Giroud has been deservedly praised for his wonderful effort and Wenger has revealed exactly how highly his rates the 30-year-old’s stunner.
“I’ve been spoiled in my career because I’ve had many great players and many great strikers and that [Giroud’s goal] is certainly in the top five,” he said via The Mirror.
“I remember Bergkamp and Henry with special goals. Bergkamp at Leicester, at Newcastle. Henry at Real Madrid, against Liverpool. These kinds of goals and Kanu at Chelsea.
“Olivier scores important goals, he scored at Man United with a special header, he scored against West Brom in the 86th minute. He scores goals that have weight in the result of the team.”

Wenger also insisted the goal was made even more special as it came at the end of a flowing team move as Palace were simply swept aside.
“You cannot work that in training because it’s just a reflex. I think it was an exceptional goal because it was at the end of a fantastic, collective movement which is what our game is all about,” he added.
“And after that it was a reflex that any goalscorer is ready to take any part of his body even if it’s his little toe to score a goal and I think Olivier had that kind of reflex and transformed that goal into art.
“Art is there because the surprise, because of the beauty of the moment and because of the efficiency of the movement – the ball went it. It will be remembered as the Giroud goal – nobody will forget and that will remain with him forever.
“He brings the unexpected and we all come to football to get the unexpected and certainly people come to the games to see these kind of goals.”
