Arsenal take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League next week and their chances have hit a blow with the news that one of their star men has returned from injury. Thiago Alcantara has missed over a month but will start this evening and should, therefore, be fit for next week’s match (via Goal.com).
Despite the early optimism, this season is starting to feel very familiar to Arsenal fans. Effectively out of the Premier League title race, an injury-ravaged Arsenal squad will travel to a European giant next week in a must-win match.
The Gunners finished top of their Champions League group but still pulled Bayern Munich out of the hat. After the domestic disappointment of the last couple of weeks, it’s almost time for the first match.
Arsenal’s chances in the tie have been handed a new blow with the news that Bayern’s star midfielder Thiago Alcantara has returned from injury and is now fit for the clash. The Spaniard has been out since early January but manager Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that Thiago is ready to start this evening’s match against Wolfsburg.
“Thiago can help us with his quality. He is ready and he can play 90 minutes. He’ll be in the starting line-up,” said the Bayern boss before giving an update on the rest of his team.
“[Joshua] Kimmich trained today [Monday], he is fit and has no more problems. All the other players are in good shape. They’ve recovered well.”
After a shaky start, Bayern Munich are in irritatingly good form ahead of the Champions League clash next week. Arsenal should welcome back a couple of players for the match but given the last week or so, many Gunners fans are going into the fixture with more than a little bit of worry.
