Alexis Sanchez was dropped for Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday after a series of rows and with manager Arsene Wenger concerned about his attitude, according to The Mirror.
The problems with Sanchez reportedly began after the 5-1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich which left Wenger angered with a perceived selfish display and his willingness to blame his team-mates.
The bad feeling has lingered in the following weeks with more rows and Sanchez showing a poor attitude and work rate during training sessions.
The report also claims that the Chile international is determined to quit the club this summer and that Wenger feels his attitude is beginning to affect the squad.
Sanchez has reportedly become difficult to manage and Wenger felt he had no option but to leave him after yet another bust-up last week when the former Barca star made it clear he will leave.
The 28-year-old did not take the decision to omit him well and sulked at Wenger’s selection, and was even understood to still be angry after the Liverpool game despite coming on at half-time.
The Mirror understand that PSG are the favourites to sign Sanchez and are willing to offer him £300,000-per-week with Juventus also in the race although the Chilean is reportedly reluctant to return to Italy.
It’s obviously difficult to tell how much truth there is in the report although Sanchez’s body language and on-field frustrations have been evident in recent weeks.
The fact that he still has not renewed his contract also speaks volumes and it is looking increasingly certain that he will depart in the summer.
While it was a huge shock to see him benched against Liverpool, it was a decision that ultimately backfired on Arsenal as Arsene Wenger admitted after the game.
His arrival at half-time also visibly lifted the rest of the team so to suggest his attitude is affecting other players doesn’t seem quite right.
It will be interesting to see whether Sanchez starts against Bayern on Tuesday, but either way it does appear all is not well behind the scenes and it could be that Alexis is heading for a sad end to his Arsenal career.
