Arsene Wenger says Arsenal have yet to reach an agreement with Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil over a new contract and will now wait until the summer for further talks.
The duo’s futures have rarely been out of the headlines in recent months with the club keen to keep hold of the pair but seemingly unable to seal a deal.
Reports have claimed the Gunners are struggling to match both players’ wage demands while the club’s awful run of recent form appears to have visibly frustrated Sanchez.
Ozil, meanwhile, has hinted he will only stay at the club if Wenger does, with the manager yet to confirm if he plans to continue when his contract expires this summer.
In a fresh interview with beIN SPORTS, Wenger says the club have now decided any further contract negotiations will have to wait until the end of the season.
“At the moment we do not have an agreement [with Sanchez]. We’ve decided to focus on the end of the season and we will talk about it during the summer,” he said.
“It is the same situation with Ozil because once you don’t find an agreement and it lasts, it’s not good. So it’s better you get it out and sit down in the summer.”
There is a growing acceptance among supporters that Sanchez will leave the club this summer but much may well depend on how Arsenal finish this campaign and who will be in charge next season.
While the club have endured a horrible patch in recent weeks there is still the chance of finishing the season with some silverware in the shape of the FA Cup and although Arsenal have slipped to sixth, six points behind Liverpool, they do have two games in hand on the Reds.
