Manchester City are so keen to land Alexis Sanchez this summer they are willing to allow star striker Sergio Aguero to move to the Emirates as part of the deal, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Pep Guardiola is reportedly determined to be reunited with the Chilean, who he worked with at Barcelona, while Sanchez is believed to favour a move to the Sky Blues.
However, Sanchez’s potential arrival looks to be bad news for Aguero who has already fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus.
Before his injury, Guardiola’s preferred attacking option was Jesus, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling, leaving a frustrated Aguero on the bench.
Although the Argentine is contracted to the club until 2020, his future is unclear and the arrival of Sanchez could push him closer to the exit door.
Guardiola would be willing to allow Aguero to join a direct rival, and would even sanction a move to Arsenal if it allowed him to land Sanchez.
While Arsenal will be loathe to allow Sanchez to leave, they are in a vulnerable position with the Chilean having just a year left on his contract this summer, and able to walk away for free next year if he fails to extend.
Allowing their star man to move to City would be tough for the Gunners to take, but the potential arrival of a ready-made replacement and top goalscorer in Aguero, could soften the blow somewhat.
The 28-year-old has been prolific throughout his time at City and has scored 25 goals in all competitions for Guardiola’s side this season.
The rumours surrounding Sanchez certainly seem to be getting louder as the season progresses and it’s difficult to see him staying in the current climate.
There is no doubting Aguero’s quality, however, although he is likely to be in demand should he be deemed surplus to requirements and Arsenal will surely need to secure Champions League football for next season if they are to secure a player of his calibre.
