Reports in France claim that Olympique Marseille are looking at Olivier Giroud with the view of a possible summer transfer.
L’Equipe reports that the Ligue 1 side has €30-40 million to spend on a new striker and the Arsenal forward is on a list of possible targets.
The striker was actually asked about his future by French media recently and said that he would like to remain at the Emirates and even signed a new contract with the club earlier this season.
“I see my future, for the short or medium term, in England,” Giroud told French radio station RMC.
“That’s why I extended my contract with Arsenal.”
The forward was then asked specifically about the links with Marseille and whether he’d be interested in a return to French football.
“Why not?” was his response.
Giroud has seen his opportunities limited at the Emirates this season down to the form of Alexis Sanchez up front. The forward has managed just 778 minutes on the pitch in the Premier League compared to 2425 last season. Despite that, the Frenchman has still chipped in with eight goals in the league and 12 in all competitions.
Olivier Giroud has been an important player for Arsenal in the last few years, regularly leading the line and chipping in with his fair share of goals. This season, his opportunities have been limited but has still contributed from the bench. However, the return from injury of Danny Welbeck means that the Frenchman is even further down the pecking order and if that remains then he can’t be blamed for wanting to leave.
