Arsenal have been handed a huge boost ahead of their FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester City with Gabriel Jesus expected to miss the Wembley fixture.
The Brazilian has made a huge impact since joining the club from Palmeiras scoring three goals in his last three games.
However, the 20-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a broken metatarsal in February and manager Pep Guardiola does not expect him to feature against the Gunners.
“Two weeks? I think he’s short,” Guardiola said via The Independent. “Hopefully the [FA Cup] final [May 27] if we arrive there, I don’t know.
“He’s getting better. The last few sunny days he was on the pitch. Normally when you see the weather in Manchester, you stay off the pitch!”
Arsenal face Middlesbrough on Monday before the game against City the following Sunday and will need to respond to yesterday’s damaging defeat to Crystal Palace.
The club’s hopes of finishing in the top four having taken a huge hit with the loss at Selhurst Park and the FA Cup is now looking the best way of salvaging what is turning out to be a poor season.
City currently occupy the final Champions League qualification spot, seven points above Arsenal but having played a game extra, and held the Gunners to a 2-2 draw earlier in the month.
The mood around the club is understandably low at the moment, but victory over City and a spot in the FA Cup final would help raise morale ahead of a crucial run-in.
