Arsene Wenger admits Gabriel’s injury “looks quite serious” with the Gunners facing a defensive nighmare ahead of next Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea.
The Gunners will have to make do without Laurent Koscielny for the Wembley showpiece after he was sent off in the 3-1 win over Everton on Sunday.
Gabriel also looks destined to miss out after being stretchered off at the Emirates after injuring his knee and was replaced by Per Mertesacker.
Speaking after the game Wenger admitted that the loss of Koscielny and, potentially Gabriel, was huge ahead of the Chelsea clash.
“It was harsh [Koscielny’s red card] but we have to accept the decision,” he said via BBC Sport. “Gabriel’s injury looks quite serious, especially for next Saturday. We lost two centre-backs and that’s a big blow.”
Although Arsenal managed to finish with a victory, Liverpool’s win over Middlesbrough means the Gunners finish fifth and miss out on Champions League football for the first time under Wenger.

“It’s frustrating [to miss out on top four]. It was down to one point in the end,” he added. “The total is decent if you look at it over the years. We did the job until the end. We were remarkable with 10 men today.”
Arsenal may well have to be “remarkable” again next weekend if Gabriel is also ruled out with other reports claiming today Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could also miss the game.
Alexis Sanchez also picked up problem against Everton – although knowing him it’s difficult to see him sitting out the cup final even if he is not physically 100%.
