After checking out central midfield, we now move on to the attack as we continue to look in depth at the strengths and weaknesses of Arsenal’s squad.
What We’ve Got
Arsenal do not lack for options in this part of the pitch, although much will depend on whether Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez remain at the club next season.
There’s also Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Iwobi, Lucas Perez and even Danny Welbeck capable of playing behind the striker, depending on the formation Wenger opts for.
The future of Walcott is certainly interesting, the winger barely played the last few months of the season and a lack of regular football next season could cost him a place at the World Cup.
So too Alex Iwobi, who faded after a bright start while Oxlade-Chamberlain has featured more at wing-back, following the club’s change in formation and Lucas Perez barely got a sniff.
What We Need
It’s a big ask, but Sanchez and Ozil to stay and another quality signing brought in. The club have been linked with all sorts of options including Riyad Mahrez, Arda Turan and Thomas Lemar and a wide player appears to be on the agenda.

Having starred for Monaco last season Lemar would be a fabulous signing, although difficult to pull off with Leonardo Jardim’s side having already lost Bernardo Silva and with Fabinho, Benjamin Mendy, Tiemoué Bakayoko and Kylian Mbappe also attracting huge interest.
There’s also the Ozil and Sanchez dilemma, if either depart, top-quality replacements will also be needed.
Will We Get It?
So much depends on Sanchez and Ozil, that it’s really difficult to speculate. The Chilean remains on Confederations Cup duty, having helped his side reach the final, and a decision on his future seems no clearer.
Arda Turan has been regularly linked, with Barcelona reportedly willing to sell, while Wenger has admitted he is a fan of Mahrez and the Leicester winger has already announced he will leave the King Power.
