Arsene Wenger has been discussing Arsenal’s reported interest in Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez and says the club have not made a bid for him yet.
The Gunners have been linked with a £40 million move for the Algeria international who earlier this week announced his intention to quit the King Power.
Wenger was asked about the speculation and although he insisted Arsenal have not made a move just yet, he did hint they could go for the 26-year-old this summer.
“We have not made a bid for him,” he told BeIN SPORTS. “But I like the player yes, I think he had a huge impact at Leicester when they won the championship.
“Like everyone else at Leicester he’s had a more difficult season this year. But that does not take anything away from his qualities. Have we made a bid for him no, not yet!”
When pressed further on the “not yet” part of his answer, Wenger said with a wry smile: “No we have not. Not yet means it can happen it can not happen.”

So what do we make of all that? Clearly rumours of a move to Arsenal are premature and certainly £40m seems an awful lot of money for a player who failed to consistently shine last season.
However, Wenger is clearly a fan and the club seem ready to spend big this summer in order to mount a genuine title challenge, so maybe Mahrez is a real possibility.
