Arsene Wenger has said he is determined to keep hold of striker Olivier Giroud amid growing interest from rival Premier League clubs including Everton (via Arsenal.com).
Olivier Giroud was hardly Arsenal’s first-choice forward last season and the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette will only make things worse for the Frenchman.
Giroud got 12 Premier League goals last season despite his minimal role in the team and has now become the target for a number of other clubs.
West Ham have stated their interest and Everton appear to be leading the chase but Arsene Wenger has today dismissed these rumours, saying that he wants Giroud to stay at the Emirates.
“We extended his contract last year so our resolution is to keep him here because we extended his contract,” Wenger said at his pre-match press conference in Sydney.

“He has a great value to the squad and I think as well he is a great lover of the club. He loves the club and has always been very determined to stay.
“It’s always the same problem – when you have only one striker, people ask why you don’t buy another one. When you have two or three, they say that they will be unhappy because you have too much competition.”
It’s good that Wenger is determined to keep hold of Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman is different to any other forward at the club and his role in the team last season cannot be understated. the 30-year-old scored some hugely important goals and it would be foolish to lose what he offers.
