Arsene Wenger has warned Arsenal fans Alexis Sanchez may need some time to get back to his best when he returns to action.
The Chilean has missed both of Arsenal’s Premier League games due to an abdominal injury but is expected to return at the weekend against Liverpool.
However, Wenger has downplayed expectations, with the Gunners in need of an improved performance after defeat to Stoke on Saturday.
“We’ll see how he goes through the week. He has not played for a long time,” he said via the Telegraph.
“He was out with a muscular strain and hopefully he will survive the tests first before he comes back.
“He’s not played now for six weeks and it’s difficult to be at your best in the first game straight away.”

The loss to the Potters underlined the importance of Sanchez, with Arsenal lacking a cutting edge in attack, despite the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette.
The weekend’s trip to Anfield promises to be a tricky test for the Gunners with Liverpool having drawn with Watford and beaten Crystal Palace in their opening two games.
However, the possible return of Sanchez should provide a huge boost, if he makes the starting XI. His very presence in the squad and his hunger for the game will surely add bite to an attack that looked fairly toothless against Stoke.
